Artist Statement:

My intention is to create art that reminds you to listen to your spirit (heart) and do what feels true. Both my subject matter (the human spirit) and my style (colorful, textural abstractions) relate to my message. My technique has evolved over many years and continues to evolve. I began in watercolor and now add reinvented objects to my mixed media works. When I create I am playful and grateful. I loved painting as a child but my efforts were not encouraged. I was a closet artist for many years. When I came out of the closet, I adopted my childhood nick name, Lolly, as my artist signature name.

My current work is on elephant size paper 48" x 32". I work on two series and alternate between the two: "That Girl" is a series of females shapes in a tension composition that say "Life has challenges but as long as you ask your mind AND your heart to work together, all will be well." We often forget to quiet our mind and check in with the heart or the reverse.

The second series are abstractions based on the elements of our spirit. These paintings have titles such as Gratitude, Humility, Love, Peace, Courage, Joy and Strength. This art is designed to be a reminder of who you are – a spiritual being having a human experience.

My process in creating all my series involves traditional study, experimentation with artist tools and meditation.

If you are a Sarasota Pen Woman and you would like to be our next featured artist, musician or writer, please submit your materials through our Register to Exhibit form.
