One of our newer Sarasota Pen Women, Miriam Cassell, a well-known personality in the Sarasota art scene, feels she has found a home with Sarasota Pen Women “I’m so excited,” she said upon hearing the news of her acceptance. Miriam, a native of New York City, has been a artist for more than 50 years and is constantly creating.
Finding a creative community is not always easy for artists. But the National League of American Pen Women provides an environment to inspire and nourish artists seeking common ground. When a Pen Woman meets someone, who may be inspired by the opportunity to explore and grow in a supportive artistic organization, we are ready to welcome them.
Prospective members are invited to join us at a luncheon and to complete an application. They are then invited to a Sarasota Branch Board meeting. This gives the candidate an opportunity to tell the Board about her background and to display her work. If the Board feels that the candidate is qualified, a sponsor is assigned, if she does not already have one. The prospective member then submits an application package to a Branch Membership Chairperson, who reviews it and then forwards it to the National League of American Pen Women Headquarters in Washington, D.C. for final approval. During the application process the prospective member is invited to attend member meetings and functions, to experience firsthand the fellowship and advantages of membership.
