Exhibition of the Month

February 2021

Laurie Maves

Maves’ large scale abstract contemporary paintings constantly explore a revolving communication of intuitive information, with themes of mortality’s intersection with divinity. Directly inspired and influenced by the work of Swedish painter and theosophist, Hilma af Klint, as well as abstract expressionist Clyfford Still, her large-scale mixed media works transmit a cryptic sort of language via fields of color and mark making of varied spontaneity, size, and frequency. Her free form application of oil and acrylic paints, oil and chalk pastels, china markers and graphite, allows for the development of an oftentimes raw yet authentic dialogue of the collective unconscious. The viewer is left to translate and be immersed in the fields she creates
